| Pink spray to control first brood larvae |
|---|
Consider 1st brood control at Pink in apple blocks with a recent history of OFM problems (infested fruit at previous harvest). This spray primarily targets adults but will have some residual activity against larvae. Suggested materials: Assail, Avaunt, Calypso, Clutch, Guthion, Imidan or Lorsban. Note: Assail and Calypso are used at higher rates for moth larvae than for most other pests (see labels). Hand-placed dispensers for OFM mating disruption should be deployed during bloom and will provide different lengths of protection depending upon the formulation (see labels). Sprayable OFM pheromone can be applied once per generation (about every 4 weeks), just prior to the onset of moth flight. |
| Petal fall spray to control first brood larvae |
Prepare for petal fall spray to control 1st brood larvae. Optimal timing is at early petal fall. Suggested materials: Assail, Calypso, Clutch or Intrepid (250 - 275 DD), Avaunt, Imidan, Guthion or Lorsban 75WG (350 - 375 DD). Note: Assail and Calypso are used at higher rates for moth larvae than for most other pests (see labels). |
| Control of 2nd brood larvae |
Prepare for control of 2nd brood larvae. The first spray for 2nd brood in apple is warranted only if a threshold of >10 moths/trap/week is exceeded. Suggested materials: Rimon (1000 - 1050 DD), Assail, Calypso, Clutch or Intrepid (1050 - 1100 DD), Altacor, Avaunt, Belt, Delegate, Guthion or Imidan (1150 - 1200 DD). If trap thresholds are not exceeded at the beginning of 2nd flight, a single spray for this generation can be applied at about the middle of second brood egg hatch. Suggested materials: Rimon (1300 - 1350 DD), Assail, Calypso, Clutch or Intrepid (1350 - 1400 DD), Altacor, Avaunt, Delegate, Guthion or Imidan (1450 - 1500 DD) For 2nd through 4th broods, use a threshold of >10 moths/trap/week for OFM management decisions. Hand-placed dispensers for OFM mating disruption should be deployed just prior to the onset of flight and will provide different lengths of protection, depending upon the formulation (see labels). Sprayable OFM pheromone can be applied once per generation (about every 4 weeks), just prior to the onset of moth flight. |
| Control of third brood larvae |
Prepare for control of 3rd brood larvae. From this point forward, the model is not used to predict percent OFM egg hatch in apple. The timing recommendations are based on the best information currently available. Suggested materials: Rimon (2300 - 2350 DD, then at 2750 - 2850 DD), Assail, Calypso, Clutch or Intrepid (2350 - 2400 DD, then at 2800 - 2900 DD), Altacor, Avaunt, Belt, Delegate, Guthion or Imidan (2450 - 2500 DD, then at 2900 - 3000 DD). Sprayable OFM pheromone can be applied once per generation (about every 4 weeks), just prior to the onset of moth flight. Use a threshold of >10 moths/trap/week for OFM management decisions. Depending upon variety, preharvest intervals now become a consideration in product selection. |
| Control of fourth brood larvae |
Prepare for control of 4th brood larvae. This is usually one of the largest broods of the season, and can cause significant damage through harvest. If the threshold of 10 moths/trap/week is exceeded, apply a spray within 7-10 days. Maintain coverage with complete (2-week intervals) or alternate-row-middle (5 to 7 day intervals) sprays as long as trap counts exceed threshold. Sprayable OFM pheromone applied in late August will provide protection through about mid-October. Selection of products must now give careful consideration to both restricted entry and preharvest intervals. |
